MTV Video Music Aid Japan reaches over 30 million homes

MTV Japan broadcast a star-studded line up of performers last night, Saturday 25 June, at MTV Video Music Aid Japan (VMAJ), a live music television event to benefit the Japanese Red Cross.

Acts included Lady Gaga, Tokio Hotel, Namie Amuro, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, Exile, Kana Nishino, One Night Only and Monkey Majik, all performing live at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture.

Hosted by Japanese pop stars and Japanese Red Cross spokespeople AKB48, the staging of VMAJ is the culmination of MTV Japan’s Music of Hope campaign, the channel’s multi-platform response to the March earthquake and tsunami.

VMAJ was broadcast live to more than 30 million households on MTV Japan, MTV Korea, MTV SEA and MTV China on June 25. It aired in all Japanese television homes via cable, satellite and national and regional terrestrial channels.

A special one-hour version of VMAJ will air to over half a billion homes globally on MTV channels worldwide as a special instalment of MTV’s weekly live music series, MTV World Stage on Friday 29 July.
